We've always had great luck with the Sears Kenmore brand. Not just washers---our refrigerator was bought in 1982. Wife has been wanting it to quit for years, but it keeps on ticking. Microwave was bought in 1983. A deep freeze out on the back porch was bought in the early 70s.
For what it's worth, the wife of a friend of mine told me just last night that she's replacing her big fancy front-loading washer. She said that it's designed to not use much water, and as a result the clothes don't get as clean as they should. Me, I don't know.
