I'd better get my two cents in before we are poofed. The principal of the school, bless her heart and soul, ran toward the shots and was the first to lose her life, as I understand it. If she would have had a gun, would she have been able to get him before his spray of lead got her? I don't know the answer. If she would have had a gun she would have to be trained for combat tactics in order to make her useful with a gun in the situation at that school. Seems awful to me to think a principal would have to be trained that way to protect her grade school students. Putting bars on the school would trap the students and teachers in the building if there was an explosion or drastic emergency. Fire laws dictate that windows can't be higher than a certain level or smaller than a certain size in grade schools so the students can escape through them in case of an emergency. If there were bars the gunman could send in a fire alarm and spray the students and teachers as they came out of the building. If assault rifles or guns in general were banned, no one would have an ounce of a chance to protect themselves against the people with a killer mentality armed with a gun they purchased in the underground market. The year was about 1967 and my father found a good used Ford 601 tractor to use on the farm instead of "Bob", our old mule. Now my grandfather had had this mule since the mid 40's and he was getting some age on him. S
