I agree that today's kids seem hooked on violent video games, but as a kid in the 50's we played war with wooden rifles, cowboys and indians with same rifles, cap guns and bow and arrows with rubber tips so I don't think you can put all the blame on "violent" games. We also played baseball (sometimes in the street) , rode our bikes, made forts out of old pallets and carpet remnants and did countless other things to occupy ourselves, especially in summer. Our parents hugged us when we needed/wanted it, spanked us when we deserved it.
What I think is missing today is that daily interaction with family. My parents knew where I was all the time and would question me like the FBI if they thought something was amiss. If I got a spanking in school from the nuns (yes they used to do that), I was more worried about the spanking I'd get from my dad when I got home.
Looking back there were some kids who were prone to trouble and by and large their parents were not nearly involved in their lives as mine were. That same thing continues today but even good parents can spawn a bad apple. There's no clear-cut answer.
The big difference is the lightning speed at which news travels today. Few people know (or recall) a bombing here in Michigan in 1927 where a farmer blew up a schoolhouse and killed 38 kids. So evil is evil and this will continue to happen as long as time goes on. Don't think we can legislate our way out of it.

But alas, my carb foiled me again, it would fire a second then flood out. After numerous dead ends for a replacement carb, I went to work fixing mine.I soldered new floats on the float arm, they came from an old motorcycle carb, replaced the packing on the throttle shaft with o-rings, cut new ga
