Well, just got back from Krogers. Main thing was to pick up the prime rib and fixins for Christmas day dinner tomorrow. Other than the prime rib, just green beans, carrots, potatoes, nothing real fancy. Few bottles of wine. Also needed to do some regular shopping for the pantry.
Wife had called ahead to order the meat. Got there at 7:30 today. They said just a minute, how big did you want it. Said for 15 people, maybe 3/4 of a full one. Puzzled and curious why she was asking, I said don't you want our name? Nope, she said. Butcher will cut/trim it fresh. Obviously, didn't need to order it ahead. She said do your shopping and it'll be ready.
So we went through the store, came back 1/2 hr later, meat still not ready, so I waited, Few minutes, lady came out with an 11 lb piece that she said she didn't think would be enough. I agreed, so she went back and told the butcher to get one 50% bigger. Waited about 15 minutes, counter lady went to the back, came out shaking her head. Said they cut a new one that was only 1/2 lb bigger than the first and she told them "No, he wants a bigger one". Laughing, she said there were 3 butchers back there working on it. Another 10 minutes and I got a nice 15 lb prime rib. Some people might have been irritated by the wait but, hey, it's Christmas, the people working in the store early on Christmas Eve were all very friendly and happy. We joked and smiled with them as we waited.
Meat was $125. My mortgate payment on my 1st house was less than the total bill. My jaw dropped at the total but the wife just shrugged as she normally does the shopping and knows how much stuff costs. Probably didn't help that I was throwing stuff in the cart that she normally wouldn't have bought.

Today's Featured Article - Show Coverage: Journey to Ankeny - by Cindy Ladage. We left Illinois on the first day of July and headed north and west for Ankeny, Iowa. Minus two kids, we traveled light with only the youngest in tow. As long as a pool was at the end of our destination she was easy to please unlike the other two who have a multitude of requirements to travel with mom and dad. Amana Colonies served as a respite where we ate a family style lunch that sustained us with more food than could reasonably fit into our ample physiques. The show at Ankeny
