Thoughts of him always bring a warm smile to me. He came out to a very remote field location to visit my unit and left a lasting impression on everyone and we seemed to return the favor as he went away laughing and about as happy as anyone I've ever seen. Did you know that he was an amateur magician and not too bad at standup comedy? Anyway, we were in mud up to our ases and when he met my driver/radio operator (a Sp/4) they hit it off instantly. My driver had done standup comedy on late-late-late night television and the two of them were roaring at each others jokes. After he gave me his views on the Straits of Hormuz situation he went on to meet and "belly up" with probably 50 to 60 troops and then left. He was a two star then and most people had never heard of him. That would all change.
