That's good to hear JD. A couple months ago during the peak of harvest my neighbor had a heart attack. I had no idea as I had rarely seen him due to my hours, and it wasn't uncommon to see another neighbor pull up to the barn and do his chores. His barn is now empty here as he had planned before this all happened to ket this one go empty (he's in his mid 80's) although he still has animals at his home farm.
The local big guy that does a lot of custom work for him worked up his corn ground by my house for him at no charge.
If I had known, I would have offered to do some plowing for him as his 80-something-year-old BIL did the rest of his fall plowing.
I am keeping his driveway here clear of snow. He lets me keep my wood pellets in the shed across the yard. Instead of just doing the bare minimum to get my car off the road I am atleast blowing wide enough for his truck all the way to the barn, and I am keeping in front of the doors clear. I've seen his truck tracks here 2x since then in the snow. Never any foot prints though.... I'd really like to be able to buy this farm from him. It's 80 acres and he just had some of it re-tiled this summer. Bad part is, market price is $7,500-$10,000/acre. I just don't know where to start. I have talked to him a couple times this year that I'd love to be able to buy it but he never really shows anything one way or the other.... I know he's got several other guys (BTO's and not so BTO's alike) asking him about all of his land. The only thing that makes it a little better, is he has no kids (married, but never had any kids for whatever reason) that would make it even worse.
