I understand where your coming from believe me, but if your boy has the rent paid he doesnt have anything to worry about i wouldnt think. As for the fellow renting to someone else, that happens all the time. Thats the major pit falls of renting, you simply cannot plan too far ahead. Its sad that it happens now, but it can happen anytime. Unless you had a contract saying the owner would rent to you exclusively, under all cicumstances, there is not much you could do quite honestly. To be truthful, and i dont want to be hard here, but if you called me up on the phone, told me you were going to sue me "FOR ANY REASON WHATSOEVER" if i didnt rent to you next year, i would burn the place down before you used it again!!! it sounds like the contract is up in april, wait till then before you get all worked up. Most folks will do the right thing if you let them. Personally ,if "I" were renting and the landlord called me up in this same situation i would thank him. he didnt have to let her know someone else was interested, was under no obligation to, and certainly is under no legal/moral obligation to rent to you after your contract expires. My opinion of course, but your likely making things worse, I KNOW FOR A FACT that if you pulled the same deal on any old landowner around here he would be coming over all right, but not to pick up the rent! at the very least it would be with a notice to vacate! if he DIDNT he would lose more face in the community than anything a disgruntled renter could do! let me give you a piece of advice, honestly as a freind, keep your personal feelings out of your buisness, they have no place with each other. if you DONT, your going to come up on the short end of the stick 99.9% of the time. take a deep breath ,kick something, throw something, then think about this, would you like me calling you and telling you i am going to sue you if you dont rent me the house you own? same exact difference. if your upset about the TIMING of these calls, think of it this way, the land lord didnt have to call, sounds to me like he just wanted to inform you of what was happening. As a landlord myself,i get a call most every week from someone wanting to rent a place. you would be surprised to find its often a fellows best friend whos wanting to rent it out from under him. ive even had dads call trying to get their sons lease. i didnt call them and tell them so, thats buisness between their dad and myself.
