Toward the end of the Civil War Lincoln and his top generals were fearful of the possibility that the southern forces would cease to exist as armies, but would dissolve into disorganized bands of guerilla fighters that would pester the government for many years to come, never winning, never losing, but always being disruptive. They wanted an end to the war totally, which meant being conciliatory to the defeated southerners.
To their lasting credit, Lee and Johnston and the other top Confederate generals---yes, even Forrest---agreed that the hostilities should cease entirely. Lee told his soldiers at Appamatox that they should return home and be "....as good citizens as you have been soldiers."

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
