: : : What oil should be used in a 53 NAA. I am sure that it originally used non-detergent, but the person I bought it from had used detergent oil the last 10 years. The engine has never been overhauled to my knowledge. Thanks in advance for any help. Mike : : Mike: I sound like a broken record on this one, buy the best "premium detergent" oil you can find, diesel service, turbo approved. I'm sure some will panic at the thought, why they cling to these "old wives tales" I will never understand. : : I have the original jubilee book in front of me and it says to use the best grades available made by a reputable supplier. They list some "M" codes which are no longer used but would have been the premium oils of the time. Todays detergent oils will not harm any engine. They recommend changing the filter every other oil change but I think that is false economy, filters are cheap. : : Good luck. :-) : Do you have suggestions for weight? I live in Arizona : which gets a bit crispy in the summer time. Cowboy: I was in Az. about 1960, loved it. As I recall the temps in southern Az. you probably need about 600 wt. I use 20w 50 across the board in 9 tractors, a bunch of garden tractors and cars, trucks etc. I use 10w 40 in cars etc. in winter but don't use tractors in winter.
