I had to take my mom to the doctor a little over a week ago and he said that (at least in this area) the "A" strain and the "B" strain that are the most common right now. The current vaccine will protect against the "A", but the "B" is running rampant also and the flu shot is ineffective for it. Remember that when the so-called flu experts get together to determine what they want to include in the flu vaccine, it is quite often 9-10 months before the vaccine hits the market, so it's always a guessing game. Sometimes they get it right, sometimes it's a complete miss.
