Just bought a car from Ill and brought it to IN. it was a dealer so they give out temp tags. Indiana no longer gives out plates at the local office so when i gave them the Ill title and applied for mine and registered it IN gave me an Indiana temp tag until the plates came in the mail.
I think they will give ($10) you a temp tag. Check if MD will do that for you if you are buying from a private seller. Dealer purchases are generally easier transactions as they are bound by state law to do things properly. but you may pay more (I paid less than other dealers or private parties).
