I built a lawn mower trailer 5-6 years ago. I bought some fenders that where galvanized. I have painted them three times and the paint will not stick to the galvanize. I am just using enamel paint. I primed them the first time and that did not last a year. The next time I just sanded them off and sprayed them with a rattle can. This lasted several years. The last time I washed them with muriatic acid and sprayed them with a rattle can. That lasted a little better but the paint is peeling again on them.
What do I need to do to make paint stick to the galvanize??? I have another set of fenders, just like them, that I am going to be using on another project so I am going to need to get them to hold paint too.
