The scholarship programs through Cat, Deere, etc are probably aimed more towards engineering studies rather than mechanic studies. Talk to some diesel mechanics. You might find your best option is to hire on with a dealer as they will sometimes send you to school on their dime in exchange for you agreeing to stay with the dealer for a certain period of time. Dealers will send you for training periodically so you keep up with technology. You can get a business degree attending classes at night.
IMO you'd be better off getting into the workforce with a good dealer and learning what you need to know rather than getting mired in college debt that could take many years to pay off. It's not uncommon for college grads to have $50K-$100K in college loan debt.
