In the US cab overs were real common through the early 80's. Many states had set rules as to how long a truck trailer combo could be without an over size load permit. MN was total 55 Ft. You don't make money with a big tractor, you make money with a big trailer. When the dropped the length rules almost everyone went to conventional because most drivers believed that they rode better and would quit a job driving a COE in a heart beat for a conventional. Add in that conventional cabs are more aerodynamic and the die was cast.
I served 3 tours in Germany. With roads there through towns and such COE makes much more sense.
