I thought that same thing, but theres a couple of trees in my old hardwood stand that clearly has wire marks in it and now you need a ladder to get to them, and I know its not from an old tree stand, I'll have to get a photo of this, its been there as long as I can remember, anything perfectly horizontal stands out in the woods, always man made or most of the time it is.
