If you still have the old pistons, examine at the skirts and the pin bosses and see if there is some reason they want the piston notch to face forward. Some pistons, for example, had a diagonal slot in the skirt and would be undesirable to have this slot bear the thrust during the power stroke. Possibly also the pin bosses may be offset. In short, if the piston is symmetrical in every direction, it doesn't matter which way it is installed. JDseller is right, though, put all the numbers on the same side. Even though nobody will ever see it, have some pride in your work.
