I joined out of respect for my grandfather and uncle who served... as well as all the other great friends and people who have served and are still serving our country. The SAL does a lot of good things for our local area as well as country wide from funds raised by having different raffles and community events. If I'm not mistaken I think our Sons unit puts on our weekly turkey shoots and that money raised from them goes into the kitty for anything that comes up that they can help out with. Think they do our annual car cruise as well.
There's the old saying... There's strength in numbers. Same goes for support for our veterans. With stronger membership comes greater support.
Give it some thought to joining. It doesn't cost much (thinking like 12 bucks?) and every little bit counts. Social memebership... Sons of American Legion membership... Ladies Auxilary membership... or Regular membership if you served. It's the best club I can think of to be a part of.
