The 1991 eruption of Mt Pinatubo in the Phillipines ejected over 10 billion tons of magma and 22 million tons of sulphur dioxide plus vast quantities of minerals and metals contained in an aerosol cloud which it injected into the stratosphere and covered the entire globe. It amounted to more toxic pollutants than man has caused man's history on earth. All it did was give us nice pretty sunsets for about three years. Mt Pinatubo, as large an eruption as it was, was exceeded in volume by the eruption of Krakatoa in 1883. And then there was Novarupta in 1912. That was larger than Pinatubo, or, 30 times the size of the Mt St Helens eruption. There have been hundreds, probably thousands, of these eruptions in earth's history. For mere men to think they are equal to these collossal natural events is folly.
