Knurled knob is a lot like the sediment bowl tightening thing on many tractors. It will be a small round device that has ridges on it so you can grip it with your fingers to turn it. You tractor should probably have 2 in the area of the hyd cover close the the control you installed if not one on that control. As for the spray of fluid sounds like you have a pressure built up which could be from not having one ot both or then knobs set right.
