Kornfused, I blew up your pictures on my laptop. That long axle looks like it's from an old push rake. The wheel closest to the camera seems to have a guard laying on the wheel. The push rakes had these guards to keep the hay off the wheels. The other picture is of two wheel spindles where the wood axle has rotted away between them. The long rod pulled the spindles toward each other and kept them on the wood axle.
