It used to be that all the comparisons were done by people, and your chances of getting caught were pretty slim, now computers do the comparisons, and the chances of someone not getting caught are considerably increased. The limiting factor now is the manpower to follow up when the computer kicks out a discrepancy. I suspect that in the near future the computer will start generating a form letter stating your tax forms have not been filed and requesting you make an appointment with a tax examiner.
