Larry, Case Co. introduced the totally new 70 series tractors in 1970 To promote these new tractors, Case developed the Golden Demonstrator Program. Each case dealer could order a 70 series tractor model suited to his area, to take out and demonstrate to his customers. Each customer demo was documented and with each demonstration, came a discount on that tractor. In 1971 the program was extended with a new paint scheme, which was supposed to be on the 1970 versions. In 1970 Hinson Royal, had developed a ROPS cab which finally met Case specs. The story is there was a comunication glitch between Case and Hinson, and ALL Hinson cabs were shipped to Case painted Desert Sunset, rather than black, for the demonstrators. In 1971 Case was building their own cabs and the 1971 Demonstrators became known as "Black Knights" They sported all black sheat metal with the Case orange bellies, and silver rims. The graphics were bold gold stripes, outlining nthe cab and excentuating the hood. These tractors also were acessorized with a stainless steel muffler, and most dealers als decked them out with chrome mirrors, radios and factory heat and AC. We were Case dealers from 1931 thru 1986. My dad ordered during the two years of the Golden Opertunity Program, 870s. In 1970 I was 23 and very active in the dealership. I was on the road selling Case and pushed the program to the limit with the tractors, and new to this area Shank and rotary tillage practices. Alternatives to the moldboard plow. I retrieved it several years later. The next two are late model toys The last pic is of a 970 that we sold new to a local farmer, and his son repainted it to resemble a 1570 Spirit of 76.
