Gene I bought a house in 1967 sitting 14 ft from the house was a 30 year old pin oak that was over 22 in diameter about 20 ft tall or better. We wanted to add on the house in that direction. I took a cat hoe and dug down with a 30 inch bucket. Dug down about 12 ft around three sides. Then on the other side started digging all dirt out for a slot over forty feet. Took a D 8 pulled a cable under the dirt clump much as a cutter. Next wet everything down over night. placed a cable sling with old truck tires on the back side and hooked two d8s with winch. Moved the entire clump tree and dirt over 40 feet. Backfilled , watered and adder fertilize. To this date 30 years latter it is still growing. Where there is a will there is a way. If they kept that treed soaked in water for several weeks I bet it lived.
