Last year I needed 3 photocopies of old tax returns. About $60 a page, I sent them a check for $171. Couple weeks later I get a U.S. Treasury check for $171 and a letter explaining that one of 'em wasn't available. Another letter comes saying I'm getting "checked" for 2010, and that I owe about $1200. After I cash the check for $171, all the photocopies I ordered show up. Meanwhile, a parallel side show is going on during the payment of the $1200. They claim every check I write them bounces. I eventually made about 10 copies of every cleared check because they make this claim so often. They keep sending me U.S. Treasury checks for these weird amounts that don't represent anything in my files, that I have to keep sending back. This morning I got a letter stating that the original $171 was applied to the tax bill (!) Can't wait to see how that shakes out. All this out of one building in Holtsville, N.Y. One cubicle sends me bills, one cubicle sends me checks, still another cubicle sends letters telling me to do nothing for the time being. This is almost getting funny. I think the government outsmarted itself this time, adding 15,000 IRS agents to the fold. They're crawling over one another like ants in an anthill, and they're not as smart. I must say, though, at least they have some level of compassion. As long as you correspond with them, they seem to be as helpful as they can. As long as they don't cost me anything, I'm happy to be their pen pal.

As long as a pool was at the end of our destination she was easy to please unlike the other two who have a multitude of requirements to travel with mom and dad. Amana Colonies served as a respite where we ate a family style lunch that sustained us with more food than could reasonably fit into our ample physiques. The show at Ankeny
