Trading anything in seems to be a pretty bad mistake. Granted if you sell it yourself you'll have to advertise and answer some phone calls, but that's worth several k to me. Buy the other planter with cash, twist their tail as hard as you can on the price and walk away. That way they can yak all they want and more of your money is still in your pocket.
