Well... the old Jeep Cherokee finally had enough at 294k miles and the wrist pin knock turned to a loud clatter. Going to keep it, fix it, and give it to the boy in the next year when he turns 16 (after he helps me fix it...) Rather than try to fix it now and buy me something after I give it to the boy, (busy with work, no time to do it in that order)I plan to buy me a replacement now.
Always like to hear everyone's input on here. So here's my thoughts and requirements:
Like everything about that Cherokee. Would be an easy decision to replace it with another of similar year ('99 to 2001) and lower miles.
1. Don't want anything bigger 2. The space between the back seat and the rear window is critical for equipment and tools while a kid or 2 rides in the backseat. 3. 4wd 4. Would love to have a 5 speed 6. Needs to have a long life - I put around 30k to 35k miles a year on it. 7. Used, not new. Really hesitant on anything very new as they are tough for me to fix and maintain. The jeep was easy. My wife's newer Subaru - not easy. 8. Need to get the same approx. mileage or better. I was averaging 20.
So.... before I go out an find another old Cherokee, what else should I consider? Have thought about the older Ford Escape (just not sold on it yet and really prefer a full size spare).

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
