Walt, I think its because the longer the barrel, the more pressure builds, thus more recoil. The shorter the barrel not much pressure can be built up in it allowing a shorter burn and recoil. To me the derringer has less recoil than my PPK/S in a 380,or so it "felt" to me.It could also be different shape of hands and grip positioning when firing.I used both - two hand grip, first shot -- one hand grip on the last shot.Very little recoil felt on my 77 yr old hands with neuropathy, but maybe to someone else it is too much,but not nearly as much as I was told it would be.Swell little pistol, IMO.
