I saw where you were @ Knox once upon a time. I'm close enough to the base to feel the ground shake when tanks are doing live fire. They had several out of control wild fires there last year. Had to suspend live fire training most of the summer and fall.
We had a VERY early spring and most of us got corn in the ground way early. Some of that actually yielded fairly good. Anything planted at normal time just burnt up. Our beans did pretty good with a few late rains that were just in time. Nothing to brag about, and dang glad I had crop insurance. Hay started off great. First cutting was best in years. About the time we got that off the fields, it got dry. Those same late rains greened up everything, but not enough to get another cutting in the fall. Pastures look spotty now, hay fields may rebound if we get a decent spring and summer. If not, hay is in very short supply going forward. Kentucky has had (in recent years) more beef cattle than any state east of the Mississippi. That being the case, it looks kinda sparse around here now. Lotta empty pastures.
