I would totally agree with you that small class size is important. The benefit of consolidation is that more classes can be offered.
I live outside two smaller communities that are refusing to consolidate. The schools are only a mile apart. Both schools are sliding in academic ranking. I have to send my kids to the city school 15 miles away to get good college prep.
