I hope they can make it work. The compact and 1/2 ton diesel deal has been on again / off again for over 10 years. Every time they anounce that a new light diesel will be avalible within a year, the EPA toughens the rules and the little diesels go away again. California air resorces board(CARB) hates diesels, and the companies will not build anything that cant be sold in California
The fellow saying he drove a 40 mpg diesel jeep in Europe, sounds good. My question is, what will the EPA approved version be like ?? About 10 years ago a little Italnian 4 cyl diesel was avalible in one jeep SUV. The first road test I found of it was a British car magazine. The Brits raved about the power and economy of the Euro version, but the US version was a total failure. It was underpowered and made 2 mpg better than the standard gas engine. I hope this time is better.
