I used to buy and sell on ebay quite a bit. I rarely even look on there anymore. my wife still sells on there occasionally. I have 700+ and she has 1700+ positive feedback. We probably had another couple thousand combined with our old user ID's. Ebay made everyone that used their email address change their ID years ago.
As a buyer I leave feedback when I get the item. I don't care if the seller leaves me feedback or not.
As a seller I leave feedback once the transaction is complete. That means when the buyer leaves me feedback or contacts me to say they are happy with the item and transaction. If they contact me and are not happy I don't consider the transaction complete until I remedy the situation. Some buyers don't like that I don't leave feedback when they pay. So be it.
I've had 3 negatives. First was a buyer that left me a negative as soon as I quoted a shipping price on a shop manual. I quoted the USPS Bound Printed Matter rate. The buyer demanded I ship it for 1 cent!!!!!! The guy was clearly just causing problems. He had a very long list of negative feedback from sellers. That was years ago when the feedback system was a two way street. Now the feedback system favors the buyers.
My second neg was from a seller that never sent my item. She couldn't produce a shipping receipt. I left her a neg. She retaliated left me neg then contested the neg I left her. What a joke. I wouldn't agree to binding arbitration. They removed the neg I left but wouldn't remove the neg she left me. A few months later she relisted the item I had bought and never received. I contacted feebay. They said sorry. Scrolling through her feedback there were several negs she had removed. She knew how to play the system.
The 3rd was another shop manual sale. The buyer never paid. I left him negative feedback for not paying. He retaliated and left me negative.
Does feebay still use the detailed seller ratings? That system was another fiasco. If the buyer doesn't leave you perfect scores ebay keeps the seller from listing stuff. At least they did. Some buyers would rate low on shipping price but we always charge what USPS charges without marking it up.
It was a real free for all in the early days of ebay. People could leave feedback even if they hadn't been involved in an ebay transaction! That didn't last long.
