jic, As far as I am concerned Cut-it and Covering meant to me was... referrers to a Oneway plow ....You had Farmed up and got a piece land ready to sow in the Spring, (really disked deep and a nice seed bed was ready!) Got a heavy rain, or rainy spell and the little weeds started sticking their little weed heads out of the ground! Problem is you need to re-plow, but Not Deep! set the Oneway disk... shallow about 1 in deep run in a higher gear to cut most of the weeds, and cover the rest. (Farmall M, 4th gear mid to 3/4 throttle) You don't want to loose the soil moisture by deep plowing. Just stir the top 1 in or so of the soil so you can sow Sudan, Redtop Cane or whatever in short order and get that crop going. I recall doing it 2 or 3 times growing up as a kid! Yes the next time you plowed that field, more care had to be exercised to get all the little ridges and such out. So essentially it is a way to replow a piece of land to get a crop planted! and save your moisture.... at least here in Central Texas. Just my understanding of the term and how it relates to Me! It did a really nice job in the Lampasas river sand that was my Dads home place.
