I had problems with my third grade teacher, who didn"t like me. One of the problems was with penmanship. She wanted us to write with lots of flourishes and fancy curli-cues, which seemed stupid to me. My cursive writing was and is very readable, but is much simpler and faster than what that teacher wanted. She gave me the only D I ever got on a report card. For penmanship.
No other teacher ever complained about how I wrote.
Is cursive writing necessary in primary school now? I don"t know if it is worth spending a whole lot of time on. But kids should be able to read and write cursively. Oh but wait! Lots of kids come out of primary school unable to read or write printing.
