I'm no fan of Walmart. I don't like that in their quest to have the lowest prices they've helped to drive US manufacturing jobs overseas. I don't like that they get property tax breaks and therefore get an advantage on established area retailers.
As far as their wages....I know several people that have worked for Walmart. They used their experience to move on to better jobs. I don't think anyone hires on with Walmart expecting to make a career of it. Walmart employee's compensation, including benefits is right in line with that of many other retailers. At least in this area. I do know two people that have moved up to management positions and they do surprisingly well.
We've got two Walmarts within 10 miles. They employ allot of people that otherwise wouldn't be able to find a job around here. This area has had a bad unemployment problem since 2009.
As for leaking the memo, etc....I'm sure they have some good reasons. They didn't get where they are by making poor business decisions.
They built both of the local stores at the same time to replace a more centrally located store. I've been in one of them twice and the other 4 or 5 times since they opened around 5 years ago. The only thing I can think of that they consistently have the best price on is 5qt jugs of Mobil1 motor oil.

This would make the whole engine rebuild job much easier-and much less expensive! I soon found however, that the #4 conrod bearing had disintegrated, taking with it chunks of the crankshaft journal.
