I see a LARGE number of them rusted out above the wheel openings along with other spots too.
This metal is so thin and the large smooth panels make for easy denting. Older trucks used to have several sharp creases in the metal forming style lines that made them stiffer along with thicker gauge metal too.
My favorite truck bed for a truck to use is on our 1 ton dump. Made by Crysteel. We got it with one side that folds down like a tailgate to make easy loading from the side. Heavy metal you can strap things down and haul long stuff up over the top cab protector.And of coarse it dumps and you can tailgate spread gravel out of it too.
