9n ford - positive ground ???

i am now a proud owner of a 9n ford. i noticed
that the battery was installed with the negative
post to ground and the shop manual states that
the elect system is positive ground. what is the
effect of installing the battery backwards ? the
tractor seemed to rune fine at first but now will
not start.
