The cab off of a JD 4520 is way too big. The one you need would only have been used on the JD utility tractors not the row crop ones. The cab you would need is an open bottom one. It does not have a full floor in it. The cab has to fit around the transmission hump so to speak. The correct one for it would be pretty rare. I have only seen Hinker cabs on the smaller JD utilities and they did not have AC. Year-Round made cabs that would fit the 2840 but I never seen one on the small frame utility.
I have attached pictures of one of them. Look at how low the cab sets on the tractor. This is what makes mounting it so hard.
Have you really thought this through???? That JD 2440 is a pretty small tractor to put a cab with AC on. The compressor will pull 5-8 hp when it kicks in. Also the transmission housing gets very warm on these tractors when you work them much in the summer. It would make the odds of the AC keeping up very small.
I think you would be better off selling your JD 2440 and buying a tractor with a factory cab on it. You will have a boat load of money in a real odd ball tractor. Plus I am not sure the AC will perform well.

After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
