Got volt meter? If not get one and hook it directly across battery terminals. Start tractor. If the voltage at battery goes up, the generator is charging the battery and amp meter is wired backwards. If the voltage at the battery goes down, the generator is discharging the battery and the amp meter is wired correctly but the generators polarity is reversed. Generators can become very difficult to reverse the polarity so you have to keep after it. Another option is reverse the battery and amp meter and run a negative ground tractor ;-). Good Luck,
