No you cannot nor do you need to open the gate. This was the old gate from in front of the house leading into the field...It is no longer wide enough for todays machinery and a new gate was opened on a safer part of the road....So the old gate was restored and fixed between a pair of granite pillars, with old Harry leaning over it and thinking????? You can walk all around the gate, it is just a feature, BUT you need to come on over and see it yourself! Sam
