I have yet to be beat by a carb when using a stripped bread bag tie. The wire is soft and will not damage or enlarge the passages yet will slide down the odd angles of the holes. I usually scratch out the dried varnish in the bowl with any handy tool (e.g., old screwdriver). With care you can get all visible remains out. For the outside, a friend of mine uses Easy-Off. I tried it with ok results. On the machines I normally work on, original restoration means painting the carb anyway and the surface was clean enough after this treatment. I have also sandblasted the outside but you are walking on thin ice with this because it is difficult to plug the vent sufficiently plus you obliterate the serial/model of the carb. : Commercial carburetor cleaner is quite expensive. : Does anyone have a recipe for a mix it yourself : cleaner using ingredients that are readily : available ? : To be specific I wish a solution that I can soak : clogged carburetors or other parts and it will : remove dried gas and essentially everything. : Thanks : Ed Wilson - ewilson@trytel.com
