I have a '11 4.8 in a 4 door Silverado. A couple of things about this engine that are different from the old 3 +/- liter engines of yesteryear is that the engine has been redone internally. For one thing I have roller lifters. Second it has a max rpm rating up around 6,000 meaning it breathes freely. Third, like my Dodge hemi did, when you get on it, it just begs to let it have it's rein. In passing gear, if you didn't know you had this engine, you'd swear it was much larger. I was duly impressed with GM's remake of this small block V8.
With a trailer, I pull a cord of wood or an 18' stock trailer. I have the 4 speed auto tranny with the tow/haul function electric shift. The combo works really nice.
I like the LS truck with that combo as it is a straight forward pushrod engine, no funny business, gets all around high 16 to 17 depending on ethanol content and seems to fit my needs nicely. The other thing by getting the LS with this engine is I got the soft ride chassis but still 6200 GVWR. Not as sloppy as yesteryear, but not the spine jarring ride I got in my 1500 Dodges. I don't know what it would do with a gooseneck and a dozen cows behind it but I don't need to.....don't have a gooseneck. Ha!
