Wool sells for between 30 cents per pound and $1.00 per pound, depending on quality and cleanliness. The short bits off the belly and face are worth from nothing to 5 cents per pound. Shearing is about $5 per head and a sheep will produce from 3 to 10 pounds of wool per year. In one of the Little House on the Prairie books Laura Ingals Wilder says they got $2 per fleece. I guess that was about 1880 to 1890, and close to what we get now!
