When you say the wrong drag links...do you mean they were adapted from something else? Remember that early 9ns had I beam style drag links not the ovular kind. If it has either style that were made for an N the problem should be able to be adjusted via the tie rod adjustment. I have seen the wrong tie rod ends cobbed on too, but either way unless your steering gears/arms are shot it should be a relatively easy on the wallet fix, one that may or may not increase the value. When we are evaluating one, we want to know about the steering gears...if they are OK then we could care less where the front wheels point, just a relatively small part of reconstitutung an N. I would be concerned more about the smoke...if it's worn as opposed to just having a stuck ring, or needing valve adjustments...it'll start to get expensive: Last engine I rebuilt myself, bought all the parts, just had machine work done outsource cost me $900. Also would wanna know are the rear axel seals leaking bad, how are the rims, tires, does the lift work and work correctly, does the PTO work, hows the sheet metal...those are the costly things. So the short answer is that while you could probably fix the steering fairly inexpensively, it prolly isn't gonna be a big issue to someone that know their Ns if it's not fixed.
