If you are asking about the 2 wires on the electro-magnet, it doesn't matter. There is no power and ground. The electro-magnet is an insulated coil and does not come in contact with the ground of the trailer. So polarity there is not important.
You can connect a battery or charger to the two wires of the brake coil, put a screwdriver in front of the electro-magnet, and you can feel the electro-magnet. It will magnetize your screw driver too.
The back brakes on my 2 axle trailer stopped working. Something had cut one of the wires feeding the back axle.
Get a volt meter and find where the voltage is missing. Try this, pull the safety cable and see if the battery will energize the coils.
