That smoking problem very likely could be taken care of by using what some on here call snake oil or better called marvel mystry oil or a simular product and put that in the gas and get it out and actually work it for a day as that would loosen up the rings and so on, if it has good oil pressure that is the main thing. Then chances are instead of wrong tie rods doing that to the steering the steering gearbox is either wore out and jumped one notch on the gears or more likely it was takin apart and put back together with one side one tooth on gear off, I would check that first and see if both arms align as they should (they probably are not) then realign them and put new bearings in the box, brass split type and if they are worn out as is on a lot of the tractors that would make it jump the one tooth on the sector gear. The 9N uses a special bolt to hold the steering arm in place and if that was replaced with just a standard bolt that could make that 30* off in the steering. The tie rods only have an adjustment on the front (the ones off a Ferguson work but they are adjustable on both ends). If a scrapper buys it they will not care if it even has tir rods on but then for somebody that actually wants to be able to use it and that is the market you should be looking for then the wheels not setting corectly would be a deal killer as most would not know how to repair it. But selling for use would get you more money and satifaction. Actually if you do as I said you might just decide it is better to keep it and put it to use. But bottom line is you could take care of the problems mentioned for as little as a ten dollar bill and some time so first would be try to fix it. I have a 41 9N that I need to get together and a 44 2N that I am using all the time and Dad bought it new in May of 44 and has been in the family almost as long as I have been being born in september of 43. My 9N is down because it had a knock and mechanicks said it was a bad wrist pin so after all down and all new parts bought found out what the knock was and somebody before me had put in a wrong length bolt on the distributor and it was long enough that it was hitting the ridges on the timing gear. If had known just a fifty cent bolt would have taken care of the knock.
