Thanks for all the responses. Well, 'cept for that clod that thought my post was a joke. He can go eat beans for all I care.
To answer a few concerns, the 3-point and PTO work just like the day it was born, and I haven't noticed any leaking axle seals. All 4 rims and wheels are in good shape. The back tires are gong to be swapped out with those on the 2600 before selling, but the ones going on the 9N are still good with no checking and about 50-75% tread. Mechanically, the only problems are the smoke and the steering and the left brake does nothing. Cosmetically, like I said, it would prob'ly be sold to someone wanting a small tractor instead of a collector. It has been converted to 12 volt.
I may be off on the nomenclature, but I'll try to paint a word picture, and maybe follow up with digital pics after the storm clears. Coming out of the steering box on either side, there's 2 rods about 9 inches long or so. Turn the wheel and one pivots forward, the other aft. On the bottom end of these are the parts I thinkare the problem. On every N series or Furgesson I've ever seen, these are straight, round tubes running up to the front wheels. On this tractor, both are curved. A coupla years ago, they were curved even more than they are now. As they have straightend themselves, the toe out has gotten progressively worse. I can still drive it, but it has a high pucker fasctor running down a gravel road in 3rd gear.

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
