Quoting Removed, click Modern View to see Since you mention "e-reader" may I assume you're looking at the Kindle Paper White vs. the Nook Simple Touch? Amazon has a better library for the Kindle and you can "lend/borrow" books with it. Both have amazing battery life. The Kindle Fire series and the Nook HD series are close to a tablet. Between those two, get the Fire. For Christmas 2011 one of our son's wanted a Nook HD. He used it for about a month before trading it in for a Fire. The cost of materials was higher at B&N over Amazon's prices. That same son gave us a Nexus 7 for last Christmas. We have the Amazon Store and Kindle app loaded on it so we can buy books from Amazon. The Nexus 7 is a true tablet, in the same price range as the Fire's and HD's, and beats the Apple Mini-pad in every aspect.
So, my vote is Kindle Fire for a straight E-Reader and the Nexus 7 for a tablet.
