If given their druthers, there are a lot of Americans that would CHOOSE to work that way and get rid of OSHA.
Of course then if they got hurt they'd sue, and win, even though it was THEIR choice to work in those conditions.
Eventually people would start figuring out that they could hurt themselves intentionally, sue the company, and never work another day in their lives...
OSHA may be bloated and overbearing but it does prevent a lot of intentional/fake injuries and frivolous lawsuits.
Not long ago I read about someone complaining that they had to be harnessed in to use a 2-foot-high step stool. Common sense says how bad can you possibly get hurt falling off a 2' step stool? Some lazy slob looking for a free ride knows that, "falls" off the step stool, and sustains a "debilitating back injury" that can't be proven. He's "in pain" and "can't work." Oh, ow. THAT is why OSHA makes you harness in on a 2' step stool.
