I have driven through Atlanta at various times of the day, even hit Atlanta at five o'clock rush hour, managed to get through in about 45 minutes using the HOV lanes..BUT..we hit Atlanta coming home from Florida at rush hour on a Friday night and had the same experience you did, every ramp was full every overpass was full, the bi Pass was clogged and we were about three hours ,just like you. We now plan our trips to hit Atlanta early Saturday morning,or Sunday morning when you could shoot a canon down I-75 and not hit anything, after that weekdays about mid morning,or very late at night..Atlanta is worse than Toronto and I have got caught in rush hour and rain in Cincinnati that took just as long to get through, close to three hours. Yes you would wonder where all the vehicles came from, take all that time and then you're rolling along at 70 wondering where they all went!
