Please elaborate on "beater car". If we are talking about a 1980's cavalier or escort, sure. If we're talking 2000's focus or Pontiac, absolutely not. Older model year engines can take heavier oil as they wear out due too loose tolerances. Newer model year engines, reguardless of mileage cannot as the tolerances are much tighter along with all the hydraulic driven parts like cam tensioners and such.
